Bodegas José Pariente takes another step forward in its commitment to sustainability with the implementation of Pariente Vivo, an innovative regenerative landscaping project that transforms the surroundings of the Rueda winery into a living, resilient, and ever‑evolving ecosystem.

A green lung designed to anticipate climate change Developed in collaboration with El Ejidillo and Citerea, the project incorporates nature‑based solutions to restore biodiversity, regenerate the soil, and promote water self‑regulation. Enhancing the soil’s biological fertility lies at the heart of Pariente Vivo — where the land becomes a living organism once again, sustaining biodiversity and ensuring vineyard health. Key actions include:

  • 31,500 new plants, including trees, shrubs, and ground vegetation, all species adapted to the local climate.
  • Efficient irrigation using regenerated water, progressively reducing resource consumption.
  • Application of biochar, a living carbon material that improves soil fertility and structure while helping mitigate the effects of climate change.
  • Digital monitoring through the Canopeo and Viticanopy apps, developed by the University of Adelaide (Australia), enabling real‑time tracking of landscape evolution. José Pariente thus becomes the first winery in the world to apply this technology to a regenerative landscape project.

In essence, through the use of biochar, mycorrhizae, and compost, the project drives the natural regeneration of the soil, improving its structure, its water‑retention capacity, and its biological balance.

A landscape that can be walked, felt, and learned The project includes a walking path that crosses the vineyard, allowing visitors in the Wine Experience to discover the range of grape varieties the winery works with. It also creates new habitats for pollinators, birds, and beneficial auxiliary fauna, fostering a balanced ecosystem free from chemical treatments.

A landscape inspired by the aromas and colors of the wines The landscape design of Pariente Vivo draws inspiration from the aromatic and chromatic palette of the winery’s wines. Evergreen tones serve as a backdrop for a succession of seasonal colors that evoke tasting notes and transform the environment into a dynamic, sensory landscape.

“We want to demonstrate that winemaking can be a driving force for regeneration. Innovation and sustainability, in our case, always go hand in hand,” adds Martina Pariente, technical director.

Pariente Vivo is part of Bodegas José Pariente’s full 360º commitment to sustainability — a path that blends innovation, respect for the land, and proactive action in the face of the climate challenges confronting the wine industry. From certifications such as SWfCP to concrete, territory‑based initiatives, the winery is committed to generating real actions with a positive impact.

This project not only enhances the natural surroundings but also enriches the experience of those who visit the winery, offering a landscape in motion where natural aromas, colors, and sounds come together with the wines.
